Theatre Playground offers classes and workshops for kids of all ages, and Grown-Up Improv Nights. We keep classes fun while providing a place for kids to explore their creativity and grow as people and performers, whether new or advanced theatre students.
We believe that arts education is an essential part of child development. We provide a warm, encouraging, non-competitive environment in which kids can participate fully and grow artistically. We teach the foundations of theatre, while encouraging collaboration with and respect for our peers, our art, and ourselves.
Theatre Playground Founder and Director Lisa Rudin is a New York native and graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned her BFA in Acting. She discovered her love of theatre as a child and has performed regionally and nationally in shows as a singer, actor, and dancer at venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Air Canada Center in Toronto and The Secret Rose Theatre in Los Angeles. She was an actor in residence with The Waterfront Ensemble, a group that focused on developing and producing new works in NYC. She performed in numerous shows in NYC, including a revival of the musical Flahooley, where she played the title role. After relocating to Los Angeles, she expanded into casting for independent film such as The Sasquatch Gang (by the Napolean Dynamite team) as well as teaching theater at both professional studios and after school programs. Lisa also has a background in arts education administration and development for some of the leading arts institutions in Los Angeles including The Pasadena Playhouse, where she was fortunate to be on staff for the productions of Sister Act and Looped, which originated at the Playhouse and enjoyed runs on Broadway. She's very happy to be home in NY where her daughters can see their cousins often, and she's very excited to bring her passion for the arts to your children!
